BBQ to Nourish you…

Plant based BBQ

Hello Gorgeous People!

As promised, here is part 2 of my nourishing BBQ recipes… I hope you enjoy them!

Vegan & Gluten Free Bad-Ass BBQ Burger

1. Simply gently roast 4 big flat mushrooms (no-oil), 1 chopped red pepper and 2 slices sweet potatoes (using the ends to make chip shapes) in a little coconut oil, gently turning every 10-15 minutes.

2. Then chop radish, carrots, red cabbage & courgette to make an easy clean salad base (today I used my mandolin to chop)

3. Blend the ingredients from my vegan coleslaw recipe in the book ‘Nourish with Aimie’ a mixture of Macadamia nuts, raw apple cider vinegar, raw honey or coconut nectar if you don’t use honey and a little water and coat the salad.

4. Using some left over quinoa from the day before, gently add in some BBQ spices

5. Chop 1 red onion and gently soften in a little coconut oil on a low heat until soft

6. Once it’s all cooked, simply stack 1 mushroom on the bottom, add a little quinoa and mustard, a slice of sweet potato, more quinoa and mustard and red pepper, more sweet potato and then red onion, topped off with your topper, the second mushroom

7. Add salad and sweet fries and enjoy!

30 day yoga challenge

As some of you will know I love yoga, I might not be the best at it and have been known to fall out of my headstands giggling, but it’s super fun to learn new things and we only fall down to pick ourselves back up. I started up again 3 years ago because I wanted to try something new and learn how to do cool tricks – I wanted a new challenge!

I had actually started doing yoga when I was 15 and I’d been begging my dad for a gym membership for my 16th birthday in my plan to become Angelina Jolie after watching gone in 60 seconds, I wanted to lose weight and be a bad ass! Up until that point I’d always quit everything I’d started, violin, guitar, basket ball, judo (1 lesson) so he set me a challenge, to lose 1 stone, then I could have a gym membership as my birthday present. I was 15, a size 18 and had no idea how to lose weight, I asked the doctor who said to go running…no chance! So I bought myself a yoga video (yes, video, it was 14 years ago) and I just started doing the 10 minute warm up every day, within a few weeks I’d changed, I looked taller, slimmer, I felt wonderful and I was well on my way to getting that gym membership!

That 10 minutes daily changed my life and I’d like to challenge you to see if just 10 minutes a day could change your life too!

I will post 3 little yoga video’s for you to try at home and see what happens if you just do one of these a day…

You can do it!

Aloha Lovely People!

This week I’ve been thinking about and reflecting on the power of the phrase “you can do it!” – what does it mean to you?

I wanted to share a quick story with you from my teens… When I was 16, I had just started my journey to better health. I saw my GP around this time and he said: “Well done, you’ve lost some weight”, to which I replied with a beam “Yes I have, thank you!!!”

However, he then quickly followed up his first comment with: “But don’t ever think you’ll be slim, your whole family are overweight. It’s in your genes. Don’t set yourself up for failure!” What positive advice for a 16 year old girl!

dream big

With that comment, he gave me both the determination to prove him wrong but more importantly, the focus to prove to myself that I was on the right path and that I should follow my dreams to become super healthy and active! From that moment, I decided I was going to be fearless and was going to do it! And the penny dropped, I was the only person who could make it happen!

My point is this: sometimes people, events or things in life happen which can knock us (if we let them). But I look at such things as challenges to overcome and are simply there to make achieving our dreams all the better! The taste of victory is even better when you’ve really had to fight for it!

So don’t ever let anyone talk you out of your dreams… YOU are capable of so much and can do anything!

I now look back at my 16 year old self with a smile: I was really quite shy at the time but something sparked inside me to say “I’m ready to change, ready for something better, ready to be happier in my skin, ready to be more than everyone expected!” And although we always strive for more, I did it.

So make today your day, take a moment and think of something that makes you swell with pride about yourself or what you’ve achieved. Take that feeling and run with it.

No one who has ever followed their passions will ever accept being told they can’t do something. They might accept that it will take hard work, changes in behaviour or routine and sacrifices, but they will always tell you it was worth it!

So remember that YOU CAN DO IT. Whether it be eating better, training harder, hydrating more or whatever it is that you want to take on!

So the next question is: what do you dream of achieving?
