My Beautiful Bottle and Turmeric Tea

Hello Gorgeous People!
Since we’ve been in Sydney we’ve been surrounded by beautiful scenery, great food and wonderful people…but it’s been a bit cold!
Sometimes it can be a bit challenging to stay hydrated when the temperature drops… So I’ve been loving our Turmeric Tea! It’s seriously delicious and warming and it’s soooo soooo good for you!

It is amazing! Since trying it 5 weeks ago I feel I could easily drink 2 litres of this stuff a day and you know what… I will.. I totally believe in listening to your body and when you’ve been through a period of stressful times, sometimes we need a big change to get back into balance!
So, why is this calming? Inflammation comes through irritation, this could be eating the wrong things, not getting enough sleep, the loss of a loved one, refined foods that are not recognised as food in the body, negative thinking and more… Inflammation can cause pain and lead to dis-ease in our amazing bodies!
So we need this Tea!
What do you need?
-1 nob Fresh Ginger (peeled and chopped)
-Same amount of Fresh Turmeric (peeled and chopped)
-1 litre of Almond milk (we love nutty bruce, you can make your own or buy an unsweetened variety)
-1 tsp coconut oil
-3-4 twists of freshly cracked black pepper
-ground cinnamon to sprinkle on
So simply add all the top ingredients  into a saucepan and gently bring to a simmer and lower the heat slightly for 10-15 minutes
Let cool and blend together until smooth
Pour into a mug and sprinkle with cinnamon
I’ve been using my ‘Awesome’ Bottle to store the extra Tea in and I think it just looks beautiful!

Now we are enjoying this beautiful drink, why does it work?
Simply put, there is something cool in turmeric called curcumin, a natural anti-inflammitory, in Ayurveda they recommend for the best results mixing this awesome little fella with black pepper to help absorbsion and to help heal the gut, mixed with the coconut oil, which aids absorbsion. Then almond milk is delicious and makes this creamy and feel super soothing!
I love this as a great start to the day or a warming pre-bed calmer!
Either way, you just cant go wrong or have too much, so enjoy gorgeous people!

Can you learn to ask better questions?

This topic just keeps on reoccurring so I needed to share it with you all!

 

About a year ago, the amazing John Hardy bought my attention to the fact that in the fitness industry we ask some really unhelpful questions…So as a trainer I needed to learn to ask better questions.

 

As a child we always asked questions, which seemed to annoy a lot of adults or result in the answer, “I don’t know” As we age, we can get into a habit of not questioning or not wanting to be rude… But questions are awesome when you ask better ones!

 

Every single day of our lives our mind is going through an internal dialogue, we have around 65,000 thoughts a day, 80% negative and 90 % the same as the day before! Can you remember any of yours?

 

We can be guilty of wasting time asking negative questions like, “Why can’t I lose weight?” “Why do I eat so much?”, “Why can’t I stop eating chocolate”

 

We are bombarded with images and marketing telling us that we need their products to be better. Why don’t I look like them, why don’t I have that car? Why is my hair not shiny like hers? You get the picture.

 

Comparison is the thief of happiness. And what I really want for you is simple, to be happier and healthier!

 

Once the question is out there we naturally find answers in our own minds. We ask questions and answer them all day long. Most of our answers are backing up the question, making it seem true!

 

“I can’t lose weight because I’m lazy, I have no will power, I’m big boned”… or “They wont pick me for the job because I’m not good enough, there will be someone better than me, I never get what I want”

 

So what I want to inspire you to do… What I beg you to do, What I wish and hope you will do is join me on the quest of asking better questions with me! Like anything it’s simply a new muscle that needs building up and making stronger. I found it really hard to being with, but with practice you will soon see an incredible difference!

 

So here are some questions for you to try…

 

Why am I good enough?

 

Why am I going to get inshape?

 

Why do I deserve health?

 

Why do all of my friends value me so much?

 

Why is my life incredible?

 

How can I look after myself better?

 

How can I make a few easy steps to reaching my goal?

 

What do I really want?

 

Once you are on a roll there will be no stopping you!

 

Then start questioning others too! In a kind, compassionate way of course!

A little taster of Move and Nourish…

Hey Gorgeous People!

I just wanted to give you a quick sneak peak of what our amazing new site, www.moveandnourish.com has on offer to guide you to eat better, feel better, think better and move better… Today we have one of my favourites, my lovely functional yoga movement session perfect or everyone! The site is jam packed full of other lovely videos to get you feeling amazing!I hope you enjoy and please go and take a look around!

I hope you are all enjoying the first day of lent? Lent is usually about giving up something, a feeling of deprivation, a feeling like you are missing out, but I’d like to encourage you to add something in for the next 40 days that will make you feel amazing!

I’m adding in 1 hour a day (that’s only 4% of the day) of me time, that’s to either exercise, meditate, have a long hot bath or curl up with a good book or a mixture. I’ve been really busy lately with awesome, fun projects, which can sometimes stop us looking after ourselves, so let’s look at how to do more good for our minds and bodies!

In my classes this morning we were all discussing this and Anita is going to give herself the gift of a proper lunch break every single day, for the next 40 days! Jane and Anne are simply going to add in 6 repetitions of a Pilates exercise, a ‘roll-down’ where you simply become aware of the gentle opening of the back of the spine as you roll down, then re-build the vertebra back up. Simple!

Weekend Retreat March 19th & 20th 2016

We at Move and Nourish are absolutely delighted to announce that we will be running our next event: Move & Nourish: A Day of Happiness & Health in March 2016 – designed to get your body & mind HAPPY and HEALTHY for 2016!

We will be running the event on two separate days:

* Saturday 19th March and
* Sunday 20th March.

Each day will begin at 10am and finish at approximately 4pm(with plenty of additional time for those who wish to stay behind to continue to speak with Nigel and Myself).

What does each day involve?

Each day will consist of the four core elements of Move & Nourish – Functional Fitness, Meditation, Nutrition & 3D Yoga. The day will include:

1. A Functional Fitness group session with personal trainer Aimie.

2. A series of practical Meditation sessions throughout the day with Nigel to calm, relax and focus mind & body.

3. A 3-course Nourishing lunch and an afternoon food demonstration – full of helpful & inspiring tips to share with the whole family.

4. A 3D Yoga session with Aimie to conclude the day.

The day is suitable for ALL fitness levels and will be an active & engaging day!

The cost is just £75 per person for the day and there is a discount of £15 off the total cost if you wish to attend both days = £135. Please note that each day will follow a similar format but the exercises, sessions and food demonstrations will differ to allow those attending both days a new experience!

Spaces will be limited so each person attending can enjoy a personal experience and guidance from Nigel & myself and places will be allocated on a first-come, first-serve basis.

New Timetable and a Little Gift x

Hello Gorgeous People!

I hope you are all enjoying the time building up towards Christmas! I certainly am! I feel so lucky that we have had a lovely mild few weeks to enjoy the warm breeze! I’ve been studying more ancient forms of yoga this month and am really enjoying learning more and playing with totally new movements that feel wonderful!

So my christmas present to you all is to get you to think of 3 things you are grateful for, but not just anythings… a specific 3 things that will make you feel like the luckiest person alive when you do it regularly. I do this after every meditation practice and I love it, so I hope you enjoy!

1. Think of 1 person who makes your life more fun/enjoyable/happier, who makes you feel loved or special and think about why you like/love them so much. (you could even text them afterwards to tell them?)

2. Remember something you’ve done in your life that you are proud of yourself for and really dwell on how incredible you are capable of being!

3. In your mind experience or try to remember one thing in nature that you love, for example, the crunch of leaves beneath your feet in autumn or the sun on your skin. My favourite is a warm breeze through my hair on a summers night.

That’s it! Why not give it a go?

Oh yes, and here is my new timetable ready for you all to get into the self care spirit before the new year!

Welcome to ‘Move and Nourish’

Hello Wonderful People!

I hope you are very very well and enjoying this warm November!

I’m absolutely delighted to tell you all some very exciting news… www.moveandnourish.com is now up and running ready for you to enjoy!

Move and Nourish has been a dream for the past 2 and a half years which is now a reality! I can’t wait to share it with you!

My dream was to help all of my lovely clients who come to see me at the studio with home exercises and nutrition inspiration to keep them happy and healthy between sessions. As someone who personally needs a lot of constant inspiration to keep creative and to keep improving I wanted to create what I’d love to have myself a bright, beautiful, informative site that covers all basis… So here it is in it’s very first stages…

As a personal trainer I truly believe that health and happiness is not just about bootcamp style thrashings (even though sometimes it’s great fun!) but about creating balance in life. We need to learn and understand why we need to eat amazing nourishing foods, then learn how to make them, master our favourite recipes, then stay inspired for long enough to form a new habit… then continue to learn more so that we can grow. I will cover all things foodie in the ‘NUTRITION’ section of Move and Nourish.

This is exactly the same as for our fitness goals. Having worked in health clubs for 5 years before setting up my studio I saw all too often wonderful people joining up and coming in for inductions, then never changing their exercises, despite all my best efforts, wink! Many people do change it up, but I want to give you more, I want to teach you more about movement so that you feel comfortable choosing  the right thing for you on that day! I want to help you to understand why we need to mix it up and then show you exactly how to keep moving forwards and trying fun new things to keep your body alive and fresh!

I decided to create two exercise sections as I think it is SO important, ‘FUNCTIONAL FITNESS’ a place for fun sweaty workouts to get the heart and muscles working, as we grow this section will include…

-Awesome fun home workouts

-How to train at the gym

-Running specific training

-‘Get to know…’ sections covering specific muscles and body parts people always want to understand more in depth

And much much more to come!

Then we have a ‘3D YOGA’ section which will encourage you to move more and stretch to help you feel calm, relaxed, focused and happy, this will include

-traditional yoga sessions

-my own take on yoga, pilates, tai chi with an amazing functional twist to get even better results!

-Yoga nidra’s – ‘sleeping on the cloud of yoga’ meditations

-Power Poses – to increase your inner awesome

Then I’m delighted to tell you that the amazing Nigel Lowson, my amazing friend, mentor and inspiration is here in a whole ‘MEDITATION’ section to guide you through a whole year’s meditation practice, where he has included guided meditations and the most incredible advice and guidance in how to lead a happier, calmer, more well balanced life. He includes how to tackle dealing with difficult people, why we should meditate, how to meditate, gratitude, how to de-stress, how to be more honest and how to live each day as if it were on purpose! And last, but by no means least, my amazing husband, Matt Dodson has bought the whole site together, Matt has been working all the hours of the day and night to get www.moveandnourish.com up and running, doing all the behind the scenes work, keeping Nigel and I on track and making the site look so beautiful! We are very lucky to have him on board on our quest to help the world become healthier and happier!

Meditation Inspiration

Hey Hey Lovely People!
I’m delighted to announce that the lovely Mike Jones has joined our meditation family and will be taking a buddhist meditation session once a month at the studio… Woooo Hooooo!!
