Personal Training, Group Classes and Kinesiology in Double Bay

Since moving to Sydney 3 years ago I have been lucky enough to meet some wonderful people who share my passion for Functional Movement and a holistic approach to training clients to ensure we build people up for longevity and quality of life whilst reaching their goals.

One of these amazing people is Coby du Preeze, an incredible Remedial Massage Therapist. Coby was attending one of my classes and I loved his positive energy and the fact he didn’t stop smiling the entire time! Afterwards, we had a chat and he asked me about my ribs, I’d had Pneumonia when I was 3 and my ribs are deformed on that side, after having a few sessions with Coby my entire Ribcage felt better and I still see him now for maintenance.

When Coby and his incredible wife Danni decided to open a space I jumped at the chance to work with these fantastic people and I am delighted to say that Muscle Medicine in Double Bay is now open!

I will be running some small group classes which will be announced shortly and continuing to work with Personal Training and Kinesiology clients from this beautiful, light, open and functional space Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6am-12pm.

For a complimentary assessment or for more information please call me on 0401 232 413 or email aimie@moveandnourish.com

Fitness & Business Dynamo

Updated: May 7

This week our featured client is Aimie Smith-Dodson a fitness, movement and pole dancing dynamo. Aimie runs a number of fitness and wellness businesses as well as being a part-time pole dancer – what can’t this girl do?

Aimie has been training clients for 14 years to help them reach their goals of making them feel fantastic in their lives and supporting them in their functional movement to live the best lives they can.

How did you start your fitness career?

I started as a PT and Pilates Instructor but I was frustrated by the time it took for clients to see positive change. I was then introduced in 2010 to Faster Global and signed up to education in Functional Sports Performance and Functional Therapy – this is where we look at how clients move and work on building balance where needed and train the body for variety with a strong focus on a positive movement experience. If you enjoy how you exercise and it feels good to your body you want to do it again and you get to feel open, relaxed and strong! The aim is that we provide a program that challenges the body enough and then keep changing it on a regular basis the body becomes very adaptable and strong across multiple situations. My favourite story is my Nan, who I started training at 72, she couldn’t walk to her car without having to stop for breath and had lost the ability to put her own shoes and socks on. We eased her into movement and within 1 year she had her own home gym she used daily, trained with me once a week and attended my classes (running circles around people a third of her age) had lost 15 kg, could put her own shoes on, was pain free and walked 30 minutes into town with ease. The last 8 years of her life were her healthiest and happiest. I want everyone to enjoy their lives for as long as possible as she did!

My business now consists of a number of fitness aligned businesses – Personal Trainer, Movement Coach, Yoga Instructor, Pilates Instructor, Kinesiologist (The Emotion Code and The Body Code), Nourish with Aimie, recipe book author and food workshops as well as owner of My Beautiful Bottle which raises money for Gardens for Health International, supporting families in Rwanda to grow their own food. Authors note: WOW! Aimie is a powerhouse what can’t this girl do?.

Why are health and fitness so important to you?

From the age of 6, I was very overweight and most of my childhood was spent feeling self-conscious, unfit and being picked last for sporting events. At the age of 16, I started yoga and joined a gym and this became like a family to me. They believed in me and helped me reach my goal to lose 30kg. They pushed me and supported me in finding new ways to move and challenge my body. They also encouraged me to become a trainer myself.

So now 17 years on I continue to find new ways to move and challenge my body and mind to stay excited by daily movement and exercise. I chose Pole because it scared me and what better thing to do than taking on a challenge that takes you to a new standard of understanding in movement which has a huge positive impact in my work and takes me way outside my comfort zone. It reminded me of what it is to be a beginner again, which helps me help my clients.

What does your average week look like?

Mondays to Fridays I start work at 5 or 6 am taking classes or private sessions – I schedule some pole lessons each week for myself to ensure I practice regularly, on the commute I practice breathing exercises or listen to audiobooks. Tuesdays and Thursday’s are big day’s that I love with coaching from 6 am – 7 pm with a bit of a break for me to train around lunch, one of the things I love most about movement is you don’t have to kill yourself training, good, consistent movement will get you fantastic results! On Wednesday’s I teach yoga and take advantage of that to work on my splits for Pole, while I’m nice and open. I split myself between the Double Bay Studio and Spring Street Fitness First. I spend quite a bit of time writing programs for my clients and playing with new ways of moving. I’m a firm believer you don’t have to do anything you hate, there are so many ways to exercise and move we are not limited to burpees, although if you love burpees, I’ve got tons or variations you’ll enjoy!

Saturdays I do a couple of PT sessions and spend another 2-3 hours of Pole.

Finally, I get to spend some time with my husband, we love movies, walking around this beautiful city and finding great food!

This year I will also be running courses for Faster Global as their Head of Education for Australia for Personal Trainers to help them deepen their understanding of movement.

How has Muscle Medicine assisted you?

I train Coby and since meeting him he’s assisted me with a childhood injury I have. I suffered from phenomena which caused me issues with my ribs. Coby provides me with movement and exercises that release my ribs. He’s also been able to help direct me with a number of my clients. We discuss their requirements and how movement and soft tissue therapy can assist them in achieving their goals?

Coby is my go-to person for myself and my clients when our bodies are not quite right as well as maintenance. What I love most about working with Coby is his hands-on approach and how he integrates movement to assist people. He provides us with direction to work on between sessions driving superior results.

If you would like to get in touch with Aimie to assist you with your own training program you can find her at Spring Street Fitness First in Bondi Junction and her Studio in Double Bay or get in touch with her at aimie@moveandnourish.com | 0401 232 413 | www.aimiesmithpt.com | IG – @aimie_nourish

What Emotional State Do You Live In?

Over the past 3 years, I’ve been using The Emotion Code on myself, my friends and family and amazing clients after spending years and years searching for answers to my own symptoms and issues my clients, family and friends were facing.

To begin with, I was sceptical, coming from a very science-based functional movement background I found it challenging to get my head around, but as results kept showing positive change I was totally blown away! I use The Emotion Code on a daily basis on myself and my clients. It, just like exercise, meditation and good nutrition is something I see as essential for me, my family, friends and clients to feel good every day.

The chart attached shows 60 emotions that can become trapped in the body and can cause a change in emotional state, physical pain and many other symptoms. These emotions are very simple and easy to find and release.

As an Emotion Code Practitioner, I have used this with clients to help the body heal itself from headaches, sciatica, knee pain, heel pain, shoulder pain, neck pain and misalignment, anxiety, coughs, IBS, and even helping people to easily quit addictions like smoking, overeating and much more.

You see when it comes to health goals or any goal we have in life a big thing that stops many of us from easily succeeding is our emotional state and beliefs about ourselves and the world around us.

Health is so much more than just looking good, we need to move every day and eat nourishing foods and drink plenty of water, and have a purpose, yet there are people who do all these things and still don’t feel well, or healthy or energetic or get the results they want.

For me, The Emotion Code has been a massive tool to help people feel better and achieve their goals.

If you’d like any more information or a complimentary 20-minute consultation please get in touch via email aimie@moveandnourish.com

Have a beautiful day and I wish you all the best of health!

Let’s talk about Lungs

Our bodies are amazing! With all of our bones, muscles, organs, glands and every other system all working together without us having to think about any of it!

Today I want to share with you some interesting information about our awesome lungs… in Chinese medicine each organ and gland are lovely naked with different emotions, the lungs are linked with grief, rejection, sadness, sorrow and self-abuse (you can see all the emotions on the next slide) When my Nan passed away my Dad, Grandad and myself all had coughs that lasted 8-12 weeks.
The lungs are linked with the deltoid (shoulder) muscles, Coracobrachialis (tiny muscle in the shoulder)muscle and the Serratus Anterior (muscles around the rib cage) muscles.

When we have emotions that become trapped in the body or not fully expressed, our health can suffer, our muscles might be tight or may be prone to injury or discomfort.

Using the Emotion Code and Body Code we are able to use applied Kinesiology testing to find and easily release these trapped emotions, allowing the body to heal itself.

My first experience of this was about 3 years ago, I had a locked jaw for 2 weeks and nothing I had tried was helping. Until I had a Bodycode session, among other things I had trapped emotions in my left lung, which when released gave instant relief to my jaw, the pain melted away and I could move my mouth easily again. From that day on I was obsessed with using the Emotion Code and Body Code to help my personal training clients to become totally pain-free!

I’ll continue to post more information for you guys as this has been a life-changing addition to what I am able to do with my clients, family and friends to help them feel better and live!

When looking at the lungs I have to talk to you about the benefits of breath work. When we are under pressure or stress, our breath becomes shallow and we are unable to fully fill our lungs with oxygen which is the most important thing for our bodies! I’ll post a few different ways to help with breath work this week, my favourites are alternate nostril breathing and square breathing, looking forward to sharing this with you!

Have a beautiful day and keep breathing!! x x x

Emotion Code

Wow, what a week! I am constantly impressed with how well The Emotion Code and Body Code works with clients, this week I had a session with my lovely Nan, who had been experiencing pain in her face for a few weeks, in just 20 minutes we had released 73% of the underlying imbalances that were contributing to this pain and it had disappeared!

In The Body Code System, it took us straight to the 2 temporal bones in my Nan’s head that were unhappy, we released the appropriate emotions and hey presto, the pain was gone! This week we will just finish releasing the leftover 27% of imbalances, to reduce any risk of it returning.

Here are the first 25 minutes of The E-motion Movie, I hope you enjoy!

E-motion Movie

Nearly 4 years ago I watched this documentary and I felt so excited to be able to help the handful of clients who really suffered from pain, that we hadn’t resolved with movement. Two and a half years ago I became an Emotion Code Practitioner and have used this with so many of my personal training clients and, friends, family and Emotion code clients and the results have been truly amazing!

Getting rid of Sciatica, Migraines, chest pain, shoulder stiffness, IBS, helping people lose weight, 7 years of knee pain gone in one session, the results are fantastic!

I’d definitely recommend watching this movie to learn more!

If you’d like a session please get in touch and we can get you booked in!

Have a beautiful day! x x x
