A Guide to a Happier & Healthier You

Here is a small snippet of playing with different movements in clusters today... when it comes to staying motivated and taking action exercise wise it’s always great to have a goal or a reason to move!
When I was 16 I joined the gym to lose weight, when I was 18 I realised that I’d have to continue training for the rest of my life to maintain the huge improvements I’d made in my health, so over the years I’ve added in different interests to keep myself interested in movement. I’ve tried ballet, martial arts, I’ve used yoga, Pilates, animal flow, strength training and last year I decided to add in dance and Pole as a new stimulus for my body and mind!
The amazing thing is that our bodies can adapt to anything we decide to learn, the fun thing is that if we believe we can do it we usually get better at our new skill quicker! An awesome thing about any goal is that it challenges our own perceived limitations and allows us to breakthrough!
I’d never seen myself as a dancer until I started and I’d never thought of myself as elegant or graceful until I started Yoga, equally I hadn’t seen myself as a strong person until I started getting strong and I didn’t think I was disciplined until I started training and studying.

Earlier I heard a quote I’ve heard many times before, but in a different way ‘most people over estimate what they can do in a year and underestimate what they can do in 5 years’ it’s so true!! We can feel as if we have to be perfect now, we ‘should’ be able to do this now or soon, we worry about why things take so long. Im going to make a conscious effort to relax and enjoy the next 5 years, to think about if I keep working on the things I’m working on over the next 5 years where I could be, not necessarily ‘success’ wise (does anyone else feel the pressure to be an entrepreneur?), but my mental health, my happiness levels, the amount of calmness I could experience in a week, the things my body could do in 5 years if I keep allowing myself to enjoy yoga, Pole, moving my body, my strength training and meditation.... where our relationships could be with our partners, our families and friends, the people we get to work with, how these relationships could blossom and how we could feel whole and complete, knowing that right now we are amazing and in 5 years time we can still be amazing... ahhhhh.... have a beautiful wonderful moment right now beautiful people!! When it comes to functional movement we want to find moves that help you improve the skill or sport or life you live.
I have two goals in Pole I’m working on, an Invert and a Candy, both need the ability to lift the legs up and over the head. I’ve been practicing my flat leg raises with bent elbows (as I need bent elbows in both) and will build up to using an incline.
I’ve also been working on my lower back movement to ensure my lower back remains happy in these moves (I had nerve damage about 10 years ago in my back and through Pilates and then my training with @ignite_gc and @faster_function found the best ways to keep my back and my clients feeling great)

The key is to build up and don’t push yourself to hard too quick 😊be kind to your body and it will feel amazing!!💖💖💖💖💖

The thing with Life is that there is good and bad, there is day and night, things we love and things we hate.
Sometimes life sucks and we hurt, people we love die, we see bad things happen to good people, grief can consume us, and it’s ok to feel. We are humans and experience a vast range of emotions every day.

At the very same time we can find things to be grateful for, we can be grateful to have had precious time with the people who are no longer with us, we can be grateful for the memories that live on, we can always find the gift in everything, by consciously making the choice to see potential, possibilities, and things to be thankful for, not only do we experience life as a gift instead of hell on earth. We also have the ability to have different experiences moving forward, change the way we see ourselves and the future, have the ability to enjoy every single day of our lives and to be able to have better, kinder, more loving relationships with the people around us!

Today I am grateful for technology, I’m so grateful that I can phone home, that I can FaceTime people on the other side of the planet and that I have ears to listen to the voices of the people who I love!

Whatever your goal if you break it down into small enough chunks you can get there!! If it’s a physical goal, a work goal a personal goal you can do it!! This move has taken me about 12 weeks to get, the time does not matter it’s all about being consistent and persistent!! Thank you @imogengunter and @emmajaynesmith for the encouragement!!
